What We Do
Living Donor Liver Transplantation.
Hepatobiliary Surgery includingLiver Resections for Liver Tumours, Gall Bladder Tumours and Tumours of the Bile Ducts, management of Injuries and Strictures of the Bile Ducts
We recently performed, for the first time in India, a simultaneous living donor liver and kidney transplant for a patient with a metabolic disorder (Hyperoxaluria)
We subsequently performed another simultaneous liver and kidney transplant in a patient with chronic renal disease in addition to end stage liver disease. She too made an uneventful recovery.
We recently performed the first Dual Lobe Living Donor Liver Transplant in India. This extremely complex operation involves removing portions of the livers of two related donors and transplanting both into one recipient. This becomes neccessary when the recipient is much larger than either donor and requires a larger liver mass than can be safely provided by either donor alone.
We performed a living donor re-transplant in a patient who developed liver failure 18 months after a liver transplant due to hepatitis E. This is the first such re-transplant in India. This is a very rare procedure anywhere in the world. Most re-transplants use cadaver organs but due to shortage of such organs in India our patient did not have the time to wait for one in view of his rapidly failing liver. We have, since then done three more retransplants. Three of the four have been successful.
We have now done 9 combined living donor liver and kidney transplants (three for oxalosis), 8 have been successful.
We recently performed the first domino liver transplant in India. Details on another page.
We have performed over 630 liver transplants and this makes us among the largest living donor liver transplant centers in the world.
We recently performed a living donor intestinal transplant, the first in India.
